AngloPress: --- Convention roll call votes are often staid and predictable, but Democrats transformed theirs into an epic dance party on Tuesday.
DJ Cassidy took the stage in a striking royal blue double-breasted satin suit, curating a unique song for each state and territory casting their delegates for Vice President Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention. The result was a high-energy mix of an elite karaoke session, featuring Eminem's "Lose Yourself" for Michigan, Dropkick Murphys' "I’m Shipping Up to Boston" for Massachusetts, and Tupac Shakur's "California Love" for California.
Georgia made a strong showing with a special appearance by Atlanta's own Lil Jon, who energized the crowd at Chicago's United Center with his hit "Turn Down for What," in collaboration with DJ Snake.
Democrats were clearly intent on bringing vibrant energy to their political event, infusing the convention with joy and enthusiasm as they also underscored the critical need to defeat Republican nominee Donald Trump.
The party last employed a video roll call during the pandemic-restricted 2020 convention, which notably featured Rhode Island showcasing its state dish, calamari. This year, there was added pressure to deliver something even more spectacular. (It later emerged that the chef presenting that iconic tray of calamari was a Trump supporter.)
