AngloPress:--- Michelle and Barack Obama delivered powerful endorsements of Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night, urging Democrats across the U.S. to turn out in force to defeat Donald Trump in November.
"Hope is making a comeback," Mrs. Obama declared to the DNC audience in Chicago, echoing her husband’s famous campaign theme of "hope and change."
In their consecutive speeches, the Obamas praised Harris while sharply criticizing Trump, with Mr. Obama describing his presidency as one of "bluster and chaos." However, the couple also cautioned Democrats not to be complacent, emphasizing that despite the excitement around Harris's campaign, the race remains extremely close and will likely be decided in a few critical swing states.
"Make no mistake, this will be a fight,” said former President Barack Obama, 63.
Michelle Obama, 60, reinforced the urgency. "We need to vote in numbers that leave no room for doubt," she urged. "We must overwhelm any attempt to suppress us."
Barack Obama expressed confidence in the nation's readiness for change, stating, "We are prepared for a new chapter. America is ready for President Kamala Harris. And Kamala Harris is ready for the job."
The Obamas' call to action highlighted a deeper concern within the Democratic Party about the tight race between Harris and Trump, who still commands a loyal base across the country. Although Harris holds a narrow lead in national polls, experts caution that the race is essentially a dead heat in the critical battleground states that will determine the outcome through the Electoral College.
Despite being the incumbent, Harris has described herself and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as the underdogs in this contest.
The Obamas also acknowledged the renewed excitement in the party since Harris took over after President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race, subtly referencing the wave of hope and enthusiasm that carried Obama to victory in 2008 against Republican John McCain. Obama went on to serve two terms before Trump’s win in 2016.
